Precision Diagnosis for Hair Loss

Get to the real root of your hair loss. Our expert team uses advanced diagnostic tools, including hormone panels, genetic testing, and scalp biopsies, to uncover exactly what’s going on beneath the surface.

Hair Loss Diagnostics

Why Diagnosis Matters

Hair loss doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all cause. It can be triggered by genetics, thyroid dysfunction, PCOS, chronic stress, autoimmune conditions, nutritional deficiencies, or post-hormonal changes, just to name a few.

Guesswork leads to dead ends. Without a proper clinical diagnosis, you risk spending time, money, and hope on treatments that simply don’t work.

At Harley Hair DX, we take a data-driven approach. Our diagnostics are overseen by GMC-registered physicians and use some of the most advanced technologies available in the UK to pinpoint the exact cause of your hair loss so your treatment actually works.

Our Diagnostic Toolkit

1. TrichoTest® Genetic Testing

This cutting-edge genetic test uses a simple saliva sample to analyze your DNA and identify your unique predisposition to different types of hair loss. It helps our medical team tailor a precise treatment plan based on your genetics, metabolism, and likely response to therapies.

2. Comprehensive Blood Panel

Our lab screens for key blood markers linked to hair loss, including ferritin (iron stores), thyroid levels (TSH, T3, T4), sex hormones (estrogen, testosterone, DHEA), vitamin D, B12, CRP, and more. This helps us rule out or confirm underlying conditions such as anemia, PCOS, or insulin resistance.

3. Trichology Scalp & Hair Analysis

Our in-house certified trichologists conduct a detailed hair and scalp assessment using digital magnification and visual examination to study follicle density, shaft integrity, and scalp condition. This is then cross-checked with lab results by your medical provider to complete the diagnostic picture.

4. Scalp Biopsy

When other diagnostics aren’t conclusive, we may recommend a scalp biopsy. This 30-minute, minimally invasive procedure is performed under local anesthesia and involves collecting a small tissue sample for analysis by a dermatopathologist. It’s the gold standard for diagnosing rare or inflammatory scalp conditions like lichen planopilaris or discoid lupus erythematosus.
